Mrs. Nielson is the School Counselor at New Bridge School.  As the school counselor, Mrs. Nielson is the coordinator for the Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance program at New Bridge which is closely aligned with the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) program.  Mrs. Nielson is also the facilitator of the PBIS program.  This means that New Bridge counseling interventions provide a school wide support system for each student, while also focusing on school wide positive behaviors.  This intervention is provided by Mrs. Nielson through weekly lessons for grades K-4 and bi-weekly lessons for grades 5-6.

As many of you know, Mrs. Nielson will be on maternity leave starting during January until around spring break. During this time, we will have a wonderful substitute counselor, Mrs. Martha Silos. She is currently finishing her school counseling degree at Utah State University and is excited to work with the students at New Bridge. Last year she worked at George Washington High School with the school counselor and this fall she has been interning at Mound Fort Junior High. Mrs. Silos will be a great addition to New Bridge!

Each month, New Bridge will focus on a different PBIS skill through both lessons and as our focus for the Student of the Month.

Here are the Student of the Month skills for the rest of the year:

January: Dedication
February: Excellence
March: Responsibility
April: Service
May: Courage

Mrs. Nielson also works closely with our Weber Mental Health therapist, Mrs. Mendenhall.  Parents and/or guardians can contact Mrs. Nielson if they would like their child to see Mrs. Mendenhall.

Individual Student Issues     •     Concerns about Mood     •     Stress/Worry

Please contact Mrs. Nielson at 801-737-8105 if you wish for your student to receive counseling or therapy services beyond what is provided in the classroom.
