Thanks for your contribution to the classrooms and for your comments to improve the quality of the instruction that we are providing. If you have not done it yet, please stop by my office and let me know about your experiences and challenges. I understand that not everything is perfect, but I'm so proud to see our community come together to create a rich learning environment for your children.

This month, I would like to invite you to participate in a SPECIAL CONTEST. I'm soliciting your creativity and willingness to create a project for our school. This is the criteria for the project:

1. Create an interactive display to put at the front of the school that demonstrates engineering, creativity and fun

2. Have a plan to involve students of the school in the project completion

3. Be willing to submit a prototype of the project  BEFORE  March 31

Parent Involvement

  • The school uses Title I funds to supplement and improve the entire educational program of the school.

  • Title I funds are used to serve all children in order to raise academic achievement.

  • Title I funds will be used to provide additional assistance to all students who experience difficulties in meeting the State’s performance targets.

Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state.

  1. Basic Grants provide funds to LEAs in which the number of children counted in the formula is at least 10 and exceeds 2 percent of an LEA's school-age population.
  2. Concentration Grants flow to LEAs where the number of formula children exceeds 6,500 or 15 percent of the total school-age population.
  3. Targeted Grants are based on the same data used for Basic and Concentration Grants except that the data are weighted so that LEAs with higher numbers or higher percentages of children from low-income families receive more funds. Targeted Grants flow to LEAs where the number of schoolchildren counted in the formula (without application of the formula weights) is at least 10 and at least 5 percent of the LEA's school-age population.
  4. Education Finance Incentive Grants (EFIG) distribute funds to states based on factors that measure:
    • a state's effort to provide financial support for education compared to its relative wealth as measured by its per capita income; and
    • the degree to which education expenditures among LEAs within the state are equalized.

Once a state's EFIG allocation is determined, funds are allocated (using a weighted count formula that is similar to Targeted Grants) to LEAs in which the number of children from low-income families is at least 10 and at least 5 percent of the LEA's school-age population. LEAs target the Title I funds they receive to schools with the highest percentages of children from low-income families. Unless a participating school is operating a schoolwide program, the school must focus Title I services on children who are failing, or most at risk of failing, to meet state academic standards. Schools in which children from low-income families make up at least 40 percent of enrollment are eligible to use Title I funds for schoolwide programs that serve all children in the school. LEAs also must use Title I funds to provide academic enrichment services to eligible children enrolled in private schools.

You Be The Chemist® Essential Elements (Essential Elements) is a professional development program created by the Chemical Educational Foundation® (CEF) as the newest addition to its You Be The Chemist® (YBTC) initiatives. Essential Elements is designed to assist K–8 parents – our “essential elements” in education – in teaching chemistry concepts through hands-on learning and connecting those concepts to students’ everyday lives.

Essential Elements is based on the 5E learning cycle approach to teaching. This cycle allows students to build their own understanding of new concepts from their own experiences. During an Essential Elements workshop, an instructor will lead you through a full 5E learning cycle (ENGAGE, EXPLORE, EXPLAIN, ELABORATE, EVALUATE) utilizing exciting lessons from CEF’s YBTC Activity Guides.

Educational Merit

The Essential Elements professional development program provides parents with excellent insight on how to effectively implement hands-on learning strategies with their children at home. The knowledge gained during Essential Elements will aid parents in the mission to connect the concepts of chemistry to their students’ everyday lives.

The Activity Guides contain hands-on, student-centered activities that support the Next Generation Science Standards. All activities can be done in any learning environment using low-cost, easy-to-find materials.

Principal's Message October 2016

Updated on 2016-10-18

Dear Parents,

We have had a great start to the school year and we have seen many successes in our first months of school! Thank you for your patience and for contribution. I would like to thank all of our PTA parents for the book fair and for launching our first Reflection contest! We cannot do it without you!

Here is some important information regarding pick up and drop off around the school that we have noticed over the last few weeks. If you drop off or pick up in front of the school, please make sure you are in the right lane before you let your students out of the car. It is dangerous to drop them off in the left lane because other cars may not see them. If you would like to park and wait, you are also welcome to pull into the parking lot and have them cross at the cross walk.

Second, in the kindergarten area, please make sure to use the pick up and drop off loop on 22nd street. The parking lot next to kindergarten is too small to pick up and drop off in, and it gets very congested.

Thanks for your help making pick up and drop off run smoothly!

Vote Yes on Amendment B

Updated on 2016-10-17

If you approve this amendment, the state will be allowed to implement best practices in investment management to continue building the State School Fund while still balancing our responsibilities to support current and future students. The state will be able to prudently increase the distribution from the Fund by up to 50% over the next few years while adding millions of dollars to our educational system.

  • The Fund will be better managed

  • Distributions will be grounded in economic principles

  • Local schools will receive more money, both now and in the future

Fiscal Impact:

The State School Fund has approximately $2.1 billion in assets. Under Constitutional Amendment B, the amount of money the School LAND Trust Program will receive as “earnings” from the investment of the Fund during the first year the Amendment is implemented is estimated to be $79,000,000. That amount is $22,000,000 more than the $57,000,000 that the Program is estimated to receive from “interest and dividends” alone. The fiscal impact of Constitutional Amendment B will depend on how much of the additional “earnings” that exceed “interest and dividends” is distributed for the support of public schools and how much is retained in the Fund.

STEM Fair Information

Posted on 2017-01-12

Information about the STEM Fair:

  • The New Bridge School STEM Fair will be February 16, with an evening event for the parents (6-7:30 PM).

  • All projects will need to be at school on February 15 for set up for the fair.

  • The fair is required for 5-6th grade students, it is up to other grade levels whether they want to require it or not.  The information will be offered to all students for participation even if their grade level does not require it.

  • Students can work individually or in groups up to 3.  If a class chooses to do larger groups or a group project with the entire class, their work will be displayed and they will get a certificate of participation-however, the projects will not be judged and they will not qualify for medals (we are only ordering 3 medals per place).

  • Five top student projects from 6th grade will continue to the district.  The top from the district continue to the Ritchey Science Fair at WSU.  There is no further competition beyond the school for grades K-5.

There are four main categories of projects:

  1. K-1 Scientific Collection

  2. K-3 Scientific Research

  3. K-6 Scientific Investigation (experiment)

  4. K-6 Engineering Design

Principal's Message

Principal’s Message:

“I am thrilled and  honored to be able to lead such an innovative school! I am looking forward to an exciting year of student learning, of working with our professional staff, and of meeting fellow parents and community members.

New Bridge will enrich our students through STEM education programs. Students will be engaged in activities, projects, problem-based learning, and hands-on classroom experience. Students will work to create, design, build, and collaborate while applying what they learn in math and science. Through these experiences, students will develop critical reasoning and problem-solving skills.  These skills will put our students at the forefront of today's high-tech economy, thus preparing them to be future leaders.

Our greatest initiative will be to work together to provide differentiated learning opportunities for the individual student while challenging them with engaging experiences. Together, we can make New Bridge an ideal learning community! I am a firm believer in the home/school connection.  It is my responsibility to ensure that your child receives a quality education within a safe, supportive environment.  I know the staff at New Bridge shares this same focus.

We look forward to sharing more about the school. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or to simply introduce yourself!”

School Uniform Information

Posted on 2016-07-28

Students attending New Bridge School are expected to wear uniforms to school to create a strong school culture and learning environment. Students can choose from tan or navy blue pants, skirts, or shorts with a light blue or burgundy collared shirt. The shirt can be either long or short sleeve. Pants can be cargo style with pockets. The shirt shouldn't have any large insignias or printing.

Several stores and online retailers sell school uniforms. Suggestions are to check Walmart, JC Penny's and Old Navy, along and other online retailers. New Bridge students are going to look sharp dressed for success!

To see examples of uniform options and for more information check out the Facebook post at Please ask the school any questions you have about the uniform.
